Bird’s Eye Maple (Acer saccharum)

The North American sugar maple gives us glorious autumn colours and maple syrup, as well as a usually uniformly pale timber with its definite attractive lustre.  The figuring is thought to be caused by insect attack.  As a result, the grain forms in tight swirls and curls.
