Pink Elm Burr (Ulmus procera) The Pink Elm is caused by a fungal attack whilst growing and it gives the wood a pinkish hue, the wood is very rare and will only be found in 5% of trees. The Burrs are taken from a growth seen on the outside of the tree where branches have not formed properly. As a result, the grain forms in swirls and curls. All wood has been stabilised before being turned into pens .
