Rippled Field Maple (Acer campestre)
Usually seen only in hedgerows growing in the chalky soils of the southern half of England, but if left unclipped it can reach a considerable height. The ripples form in the sapwood when the tree is subjected to environmental stress, such as strong winds rocking the branches.
