Quilted Sycamore (Acer Pseudoplatanus) A European tree introduced to Britain in the Middle Ages. The quilting is formed in the sapwood when the tree is subjected to environment stress, such as strong winds rocking the branches. It was under a sycamore that the Tolpuddle Martyrs met in 1834. The burrs are branches that do not form properly and as a result forms these interesting swirls in the timber. To find quilting and burrs in the wood is very rare.
