Blackthorn and Hawthorn desk box

 Blackthorn and Hawthorn desk box made from wood cut from a hedge laid by me in 2007. The Blackthorn lid constrasts well with the Hawthorn main body. The box is built with tenons and further reinforced with Blackthorn pegs. The Hawthorn has a beautiful silvery ripple running throughout the wood along with reds, greens and oranges. The box measures 8.5 inches by 4.5 (externally) and as with all my solid wood boxes the box is left unlined except the bottom which is fitted with a 3mm skive of natural golden leather. The lid is hinged on a brass rod fitted inside the box so as to not conflict with the beautiful timbers.
