Maple burr (Acer saccharum) The North American sugar maple gives us glorious autumn colours and maple syrup, as well as this usually uniformly pale timber with its definite attractive lustre. During the drying process, this maple has been naturally infected by a fungus, which caused a unique figuring to the wood. Each piece has been treated to stop the fungus but keep the patterns within the wood. The burr is a growth seen on the outside of the tree where branches have not formed properly. As a result, the grain forms in swirls and curls.
This wood came from a timber yard found in Eype, Bridport.
