Spalted Holly (Ilex aquifolium)
This wood attracts many superstitions. It is also is linked with eternity and can ward off evil spirits. But most people associate it with Christmas as the evergreen leaves hint at everlasting life and recovery. The wood is white, sometimes streaked with green, with a fine irregular grain. In this case it has been affected by a fungus, which adds black lines.
