Scottish Bog Oak (Quercus robur)

This rare oak is over 5000 years old having been pickled in the bogs of Scotland.  It has been dug out and dried to form a very hard and almost jet-black timber.  The fissures in the wood are a direct result of its age.  All wood has been stabilised before being turned into pens.
